At Saplings Half Moon Bay, over 85% of our team are NZ ECE-qualified early learning educators, which is well above the current NZ requirement of 50%.

We are proud to have teachers who have been with us for 10 years or more. Long-term relationships are highly beneficial to children.

Upskilling teachers

We place a strong emphasis on the value of ongoing education. Upskilling our team improves the outcomes for our tamariki, so we participate in external courses as well as hold workshops in our own centre with early childhood educational experts. We also love to involve our parents and grandparents so we all benefit.

Diversity in culture and language

Multilingual teachers keep our children’s first languages ‘alive’ and role-model the use of their languages in daily conversations. Our Kaiako are genuinely interested in learning more about different cultural backgrounds, researching and displaying resources in their rooms to provide a valuable link between us and our children’s homes. In fact we do this so well that the Ministry of Education wrote a case study about how we celebrate cultural diversity in 2016.
